ABOUT ABOUT

REFRAMED: Conversation on Art & Artists

a new series hosted by New York Theatre Ballet School

Discussions lead by Jane Royal | FEBRUARY 10, MARCH 3

Consider artists and works of art through unique and unexpected lenses. Explore connections that are not often addressed in the traditional canon of Art History as well as discuss underrepresented artists from both Western and non-Western cultures. Contemplate the role that the broader society (social, political, economic, etc) had in shaping our understanding of these works within the historical periods in which they were created.

February 10: A rose is a rose... or is it?

In honor of Valentine’s Day, please join us to explore the many ways that flowers have appeared in works of art throughout the centuries beginning with the Egyptians. In this session, we will discuss how flowers have been used by artists not just for their beauty in still-life or landscape paintings but also as a means of communicating important information and meaning with the viewer. From political statements to religious instruction to secret declarations of love, flowers have said it all!

7:45-9:00PM

$25 includes discussion, Q&A, and wine reception
