Reframed: Conversation on Art and Artists
NYTB School is thrilled to offer a full season of this popular in-house series! Jane Royal, Art Historian and Museum Educator, leads discussions considering artists and works of art through unique and unexpected lenses.
Upcoming dates:
May 31 - Alphonse Mucha – Master of Art Nouveau
Living in Paris at the height of the Art Nouveau period, the Czech painter, illustrator, and graphic designer, Alphonse Mucha created quite a stir when he began working with the French actress, Sarah Bernhardt. By creating visually sumptuous works to publicize her performances in addition to advertisements for products, he revolutionized the design and printing of these ubiquitous Parisian posters. Recent reassessment of Mucha’s work has provided a greater appreciation for the complexities of his artistic career and his life as an expatriate in Paris.
